Death is one of the best-portrayed characters on Supernatural since the in-depth story of this being who lived before time and creation who knows the maker personally. Dean asks if Death means to destroy him, making Death comment “you have an exaggerated sense of your personal value” and proceeds on to Associate Dean to a “snarky bacterium.” Death insists he has misremembered how old he is, and it is plausible that he is as old, or older, than Providence himself. Death further declares that one day he will reap God, with Dean commenting how in over his head he is.Dean asks what Death requires; Death answers only “The chain about my neck off” before progressing on to explain that he never accepted to work for Lucifer and that he – and perhaps the other Horsemen as well – are bound to Lucifer by a spell. He continues to explain that he has influence beyond what Dean can ever know and Lucifer, what he describes as “a bratty child,” is utilizing him like a pure weapon, creating extensive disasters and raising the dead. This suggests that Death has some care for the general order of things and Lucifer’s genocide against Humanity is bothering it. He continues on to explain the binding spell stops him from moving to Dean, so he had to wait for Dean to reach him.
